Bartholomew was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus, and is usually identified with Nathaniel, who is mentioned in the John 1. He was introduced to Christ through Philip, another of the twelve apostles as per, where the name Nathaniel first appears. He is patron of plasterers, tanners, and butchers. He is invoked against convulsions.
